"Medusa" en Amsterdam
Obra de teatro por Claribel Rodríguez Castillo
En esta obra, en español y neerlandés, Claribel reescribe el mito de Medusa. Tres voces se entremezclan: la de Mariana, una joven que crece en un entorno que niega sus raíces africanas, la de su abuela blanca y la de Medusa. En algunos momentos, Medusa y Mariana se funden en un solo cuerpo y una sola voz con el mismo anhelo: sentirse libres, sin culpa. La obra, según Claribel, pretende contribuir al debate sobre el racismo y el abuso sexual. Medusa es una combinación de t eatro físico y texto.
Claribel Rodríguez Castillo quiere, en su obra, hacer que los temas sociales sean objeto de debate. Cursó sus estudios de interpretación en Colombia, donde trabajó como productora, diseñadora de vestuario y actriz. En los Países Bajos se adentró en la técnica del “Teatro de la Opresión”, desarrollada por Augusto Boal. Posteriormente, obtuvo su título de profesora de teatro en la Fontys Academy for the Arts Tilburg. La escritura constituye una parte importante de su práctica artística. En sus textos teatrales, explora temas como la identidad, la migración, el cuerpo y las relaciones sociales.

In deze act, in het Spaans en Nederlands, herschrijft Claribel de Medusa-mythe. Drie stemmen lopen door elkaar: die van Mariana, een jonge vrouw die opgroeit in een omgeving die haar Afrikaanse wortels ontkent, die van haar blanke grootmoeder en die van Medusa. Op sommige momenten versmelten Medusa en Mariana tot één lichaam en één stem met hetzelfde verlangen: zich vrij voelen, zonder schuld. De voorstelling, aldus Claribel, wil bijdragen aan de discussie over racisme en seksueel misbruik. Medusa is een combinatie van fysiek spel en tekst.
Claribel Rodríguez Castillo wil in haar werk maatschappelijke thema’s bespreekbaar maken. Zij volgde haar acteeropleiding in Colombia waar zij werkte als producent, kostuumontwerpster en actrice. In Nederland verdiepte zij zich in de door Augusto Boal ontwikkelde techniek van het “Theater van de Onderdrukking”. Vervolgens behaalde zij aan de Tilburgse Fontys Academy for the Arts haar diploma als theaterdocent. Schrijven vormt een belangrijk onderdeel van haar artistieke praktijk. In haar theaterteksten onderzoekt zij thema’s als identiteit, migratie, lichaam en sociale verhoudingen.
